Thanks for taking the time to sign the Message Board!

Due to the ever vigilent efforts of spammers, they've changed the way your postings will be submitted.  The live message field has been taken out of commission.  But the Message Board will continue to be updated.  This means you simply need to send an e-mail to us and it will be inserted manually by the webmater.  It's one extra step, but it saves the webmaster from having to filter through hundreds of spam entries a day.

Please send your guestbook entries to the address listed above (sorry, no live links thanks to those evil robots).
The e-mail be sent to the webmaster for approval before being posted.  So watch the language!  But feel free to flirt!
.
;-)
.
I've been really touched by the e-mails I've received from people all over the country. I love hearing from you, and do my best to get back to you. Life in New York, especially in showbiz, can get a little hectic. So, if it takes me awhile to reply, please forgive me. . .
..
And along those lines: I've learned that there were many postings in the old guestbook that had e-mail addresses stripped from the messages by the spam filters before the information got to me for approval.  Including a note from my High School girlfriend!
..
(Hi, Deb! GREAT to hear from you!  Please try again.  I can't believe it's been 10 years since High School!!)
..
;-)
..
I think they've got the problem corrected.  But unfortunately there is no way for me to reply to those lost postings, so if you're wondering why I've not responded, it's not an ego thing (well, maybe, but probably not), I just don't have your e-mail address.  They're working on getting all those postings back up in the guestbook.  But in the meantime, it's probably a good idea to send a backup e-mail at the address shown below.

..
Thanks, again for your support and kind words!
.

Miles Phillips
..
Miles Phillips has that rare combination of talent that encompasses a terrific singing voice, passionate acting, good looks, audience appeal and a sensitivity that goes straight to the heart of anyone who has the good fortune to see one of his performances.  He is a wonderful performer who knows how to deliver a song and as a director, he knows exactly what he is doing up there on that stage.  I, for one, am always greatly moved at his shows and very proud to say that I know him.
.
Anyone who loves theater should treat themselves to an evening of complete pleasure and excitement and catch one of Miles Phillips' shows.  This is what show business is all about.

Miles - You were great!
.
The only word we can think of that adequately describes Miles Phillips, his voice, his vocal interpretations, his skill, his showmanship, his personality, his choice of material and the overall make up of his act is PERFECT.
There's absolutely nothing wrong and everything right.
.
We're both singers, so we know when a voice is really good, produced beautifully and "properly" and executed with such skill and professionalism that it's very easy to say we have never seen or heard a better cabaret act in all its aspects.  Having seen at least 100 different performers in and out of New York, we must say that this was the most entertaining, the best performed, best sung, best executed in every way cabaret act yet.
We're going back to see another of his shows and can't wait.
.

Congrats and miss you!

Wow, it seems like it's been a million years since you showed me the sights of NY as a sophmore in HS.
.
Glad to hear about your CD, I am going to pick it up tomorrow (a bit late and truant, I know).

The Pacific Ocean misses you!

Just a note from an old aquaintance. . .
.
I was elated to receive the USD 417 Newsletter and see your profile in there.  I have wondered about you and where you are and what you are doing.  It sounds like you are really excelling in Theatre.  I would like to purchase one of your recordings.  I have not looked for it yet.  How do you like New York?
.
I use the songbook that your mother gave me a lot and I always think of her when I do.

Miles, thanks for updating the site, I was wondering what had happened!  I'll send a back-up email as well.

Hope all is well, it's very exciting to check out your career!

My Cabaret Weekend in NYC
.
Jason Wynn (Helen's) - Talk about lighting a place on fire with raw talent and youthful energy.
Jason's show was choc-a-bloc with incredible vocals.  The band sounded great.
.
Rob Langeder "Broadway Revival" (Helen's) - Next to Terese Genneco's "Drunk With Love" this is the second best cabaret show I saw in recent memory.  Everything was seamlessly perfect and Rob is an incredible vocalist.  Tracy Stark is one of the best MDs in town.
.
MILES PHILLIPS is a terrific director.  Can't say how these two shows would have been handled in less deft hands, but here is a director who truly throws himself in (literally!) to his duties and produces a show that is entirely entertaining and thoughtful  Anyone seeking guidance for their cabaret show should go to Miles first (if he's available!).  Plus, his love and commitment to the art form exceeds all else.  Not only is he one of the most generous and supportive guys out there, he's talented in his own right.
.
Miles - I'm more a fan of yours now than ever!
.
XO
Hector

Go See Jason Wynn's Show!
.
Hey folks.
.
I'm stepping out of character, shoving aside the schtick and stuff for 3 seconds, but it's for a good cause.
.
I stepped outside of my cave last night to see Jason Wynn's "Not The Same Old @#$%" at Helen's.  And what I have to say about it is, "holy @#$%"!  To say I was bowled over is an understatement.  This show is truly an achievement - Jason pulled out every stop he had - especially since he was also pulling double and triple duty being the music director as well as the performer.  I truly loved the fact that he did mostly pop and original songs (personal soft spot for the genre), but also it all seemed so effortless.  Not only that, but the flow was extremely tight, and there was never any dead space, which I have to acknowledge Miles Phillips' superb direction (who's also backup singing along with Dara Seitzman, Rob Langeder and Tim McMurray - all of whom perform above and beyond the call of duty).  And before I forget, the band was exceptional as well.
,
So before Jason leaves town for the next coupla months, I endorse catching it on Saturday.  Hell, sign up for the double header with Rob Langeder's show and make a night of it.
.

Miles' COMPANY
.
I finally got a chance to listen to this CD!
.
I want to offer my congratulations to Miles for heading up the cast of one of the best CDs Stage Stars Records has ever recorded!  (I have done a lot of them, too.  So, I should know!)

Anyone who had the great misfortune of missing Miles Phillips: Specific Overtures now has a second chance to hear him singing "Marry Me A Little!"  And anyone who saw Specific Overtures can relive his terrific live performance of that song!
.
And, Miles, I so admire the acting prowess ... the sense of confused longing ... that you bring to your "Someone Is Waiting."  It serves to remind me of what I sometimes take for granted.  You are, besides being a great friend, one of the BEST actor-singers around!
.
Rob Langeder

Your Show!
.
Miles!  All I can say is your voice is a gift from GOD.
.
Now I know why Sondheim seeks you out.  Great prasing, timing, and your acting is superb.  You have excellent judgement, and you know how to put on a BRILLIANT, nuanced, heart-wrenching and heart-warming all at the same time, hilarious and FLAWLESS show!  You're also funny, and you can't buy that in a bottle.  Your voice simply melts me, I can't imagine hearing a voice more penetrating, perfect and marrow-melting than yours!

Performance
..
I have just had the privelege of watching an inspirational show at The Metropolitan!  Thank you.
.
Last week I watched Michael Buble and his entourage supporting him but tonight this man needed no orchestration and no back up.
.
The melodic keys of the pianist were thoroughly magnific'.  His nimble fingers graciously floated thru the music with ease.
.
Then the singer opened his heart and took us in.
.
Truly an entertaining evening that I will remember.
.
Now I am listening to his CD - another experience that was unexpected but equally enjoyable.
.
Please count me as a fan.

Your wonderful CD!!

How do I love it??  Let me count the ways!
.
First, being the romantic, torch-songy guy I am, I absolutely love "Wanting/It Would Have Been Wonderful".  The first time I heard it, it made me catch my breath.  Each time after that, I've been blubbering like a baby.  Someday, I'll tell you the whole "tragedy with a happy ending" that is the story of meeting my partner.  (Let's just say that had I heard that medley during that period 15 years ago, I probably would have slit my wrists).
.
Second, my next favorite is "My Favorite Year", one of my all-time favorite songs.  You have finally dethroned Michael
Feinstein's version for me - congrats, no easy feat.
.
Third would be "Just In Time" - a fave because it's one of Tony Bennett's signature songs, and being in the midst of putting my Tony show together, I sing it nearly every day.
.
Last but not least - the CD cover.  I get to see your shayna punim every day as I sit at my desk - what a fabulous treat!!
.
Russ

Dear Miles, Once again, thanks for a terrific show. What a terrific voice, and your rapport with the audience was charming. It was my pleasure to finally get to see you perform live. I wish I could return to your show, but I am a church musician, who has a Mass at 5 Saturdays and a choir rehearsal on Thursday evenings. Being so close to Christmas, it probably would not behoove me to cancel a rehearsal. So, break a leg. Be well. Many blessings.

Although you probably don't remember me.
Anyway, I hope to hear from you soon.

Miles Phillips is one of the hardest working, sincerest performers I have ever worked with. He has a way of communicating a lyric that is rarely found these days whether it be on the small Cabaret stage or the bigger Concert stages across the country. If you don't believe ... see for yourself and order a copy of his CD "Might As well Be". This is a voice to be reckoned with ... I Love you Miles and hope we get to work and sing together again real soon.....

Hi, Miles. I wanted to send you a note to tell you what a big fan you have in me. My partner just warned me that you'll think I'm a stalker or sound like a screaming teen-age girl. But I can't help it. You need to know you've touched us.
.
I first heard your beautiful voice when I heard you sing the role of Georges on "La Cage Aux Folles." I quickly wrote a rave review on Amazon.com. I then ran out to Tower records and bought your solo CD "might as well be. . ." the very next day. What a perfect recording! I wish I had been in the audience, but the live recording really captures the essence of being there. I could almost taste the "Grasshoppers!" There are so many stunning moments, but I have to single out the marriages of "Another Hundred People" and "Eleanor Rigby" (brilliant) and "Wanting" and "It Would Have Been Wonderful." And your heartfelt interpretation of Shawn Colvin's "I Don't Know Why" (translated into Spanish!) had me in tears. Whoever you sang that to is a VERY lucky person! I am in LOVE!
.
As I said on Amazon.com, your Georges is the best performance of his songs I've ever heard. At first I couldn't understand why you weren't playing him (or understudying him at least) in the current Broadway revival. Now that I've heard your wonderful CD and explored your website, I realize you are still too young. But you MUST play the role someday. My partner and I will be the first to buy tickets, so please put us on the mailing list. Until then, we will rush to see you perform whenever we can and will buy any CD you appear on. We've already played your music for dinner guests. And I can assure you, your fans are growing in number! Best of luck to you and please keep us posted!
Very sincerely,
Peter Calhoun

Re: "Question W Revue" (Political Satire) at Duplex, NYC Dear John, Brooks, Joan, Rob, Jeff, Sue, MILES, and Jay, It's my pleasure to tell ALL OF YOU what a joy it was to experience your show last week! I thank you, Jeff and Brooks, for creating something so smart and so meaningful; to Jay and John, for realizing the production so beautifully; and, to you Sue, Rob, Joan, and Miles, for your wonderful, feeling, funny, touching, and terrific performances. Thanks to all of you for the levity at this serious election season, as well as the insights and the true and tender food for thought. Kudos! to you all. See you tomorrow night! Hi Miles, I finally got around to reading your website. Jimmy has done some of the same characters that you have. We are currently in production of CHESS. He is playing Anatoly, The Russian. The show is wonderful. I just wish more people knew about it. I was wondering if you could help me, Miles. We are looking for "patches" for the shows that our producer and Ms I. have worked on at our school so we could present them to them and have them sewed on their jackets. The few that I am aware of are Chess, Tommy, Fiddler on the Roof and Guys & Dolls. We've gone to Broadway.com and nothing...could you possibly lead us in the right direction. Money is no object. Appreciate anything you could do to help, Miles. Can't wait to come back to NY to visit. Jimmy is off to UCLA to their Musical/Drama program and I am so excited. Thanks for all your help. Hi, Miles! I saw your show when I was visiting New York with friends this spring. It was very likely the greatest cabaret show I've seen by a male singer. Absolute perfection! Not only are you a handsome, magnetic personality with a beautiful voice – you are a briliant actor / interpreter of song. You will go far, sir! I purchased the live recording from your show "might as well be" this week and it's brilliant as well. I've been listening to it nonstop. I just wish I'd seen the show! My partner Tom and I caught your final show at Mama Rose's in December and have been talking about it to friends ever since. Cabaret per se doesn't exist in Michigan so it's a treat whenever we get a chance to visit cities like New York or Chicago. Thanks for the great show and the chance to meet you ... it was a highlight of our Christmas in New York. Mark

Miles' talent is an extraordinary thing. The man can sing but it's how he sings and from where he sings that moves me deep inside. There's a vocal beauty to his voice and a range many men would envy but he can also sing a Jazz tune with the best of them swinging like a young Frank and then belt out a show tune in a fashion that any Broadway veteran would covet. I LOVE his CD. It's intimate and sexy and real. I also had the priviledge of seeing Miles in productions of WORDS WORDS WORDS and THE MERCHANT OF VENICE and PRIVATE EVENTS IN PUBLIC PLACES and in each, separate from his singing, he's just a damn good actor too. We keep threatening to do a show together and, as soon as my schedule clears up a bit...I hope to make this happen. Don't miss the chance to buy this CD or see Miles live when he next performs. I agree with Jeff Matson in that his rendition of "The Stories You Tell" was a special moment each and every time he sung it. Bravo Miles and keep on keepin' on my dear man...
All love, Sue

Miles, I was very touched by your mention of "The Stories You Tell" on the other page. I do believe this song was one of those moments of the right artist with the right material at the right time. Not to slight for one second all the brilliant work in that evening but "Stories" was just something special.

Hey there, Just wanted to write to say your recent performance in Macbett was outstanding. I particularly enjoyed the combination you created between staying true to the wild humor of the text, and at the same time, you created a tragically heroic, fully-realized character (not easy to do with the piece). Kudos to Revolving Shakespeare for pulling it off. And thank you for your beautiful presence.

Miles -- You may not remember me, I'm just a little older than you . . . but you were one of those multi-talented kids from Alta Vista that I remember. I remember you at children's choir listening to me practice a piece by Mozart and commenting that it was from a Disney movie --and I had to tell you that Mozart wrote it first! <grin> I also remember your performance in "My Fair Lady" while you were at K-State--which I watched from high in the McCain balcony with Mrs. Hurd and the 6th-8th graders that year. (At that time I was a teacher's aide at AVGS.) It's wonderful to see that you have done so well with your talents. Congratulations! Kathy (Swenson) Leonard P.S. The house where you lived in AV (behind the church) is still painted green!

Words Words Words & Music Last night I saw this tremendous show.... and often we say that, but if you haven't seen it, this time really, DON'T miss it. Hopefully, it will be extended. A creative, intensive work such as rarely seen in cabaret... full of laughs, wonderful songs and so much talent!!!! Some Broadway shows don't even have this much talent onstage. Believe me, this show is GREAT! This cast is just marvelous... but the minds behind it: Miles Phillips, Jason Wynn and Dara Seitzman even more so. If you don't go Monday, you just can't imagine what you're missing! Stephanie Bonte - young, beautiful and singing like an angel. Liz Donathan playing Guildernstern and suddenly in the second half singing a song so touchingly - as a woman at last - that we are moved to tears, Rob Langeder, handsome (well, they really all are handsome) one moment a character and one moment knocking you over in song, David McMullin - a glorious voice and one of the funniest people I've seen on stage... and young for all his great ability!; Miles Phillips, the mind behind all this... sings Twelfth Night to perfection....; Parker Scott - you may know, but you'll see him as never before! Dara Seitzman, a beautiful, sexy, wonderful character with amazing low notes and Jason Wynn the brilliant musical director, with I believe a song of his own in this production! Again... you would have to pay mucho dollars for a show like this and sit in the boonies to see it... here you are in a small room, experiencing up close! CONGRATULATIONS Miles Phillips, your musical director Jason Wynn and all involved!!!! PS Having Carol Channing (aka Richard Skipper) and Sydney Meyer of Don't Tell Mama suddenly appear in the midst of Shakespeare, was a stroke of hilarious brilliance! Good luck, Miles. I wish you many, many more performances of this! MR

I Wish I Had Been There! I don't think I know of a smoother or more seductive voice than that of Miles Phillips. This live recording of his cabaret show, "might as well be. . ." is, to put it simply, amazing. He provides the listener with several original tunes, as well as some well-known standards, including a brilliant arrangement of Eleanor Rigby/Another Hundred People - an odd choice for a medley, but Miles makes it work perfectly. But this CD's strongest point is Miles' amazing voice. The upbeat numbers are exciting, while the ballads have incredibly rich tones, all with tremendous control. I wish I had been around to see the actual show. If you're looking to simply enjoy the voice of a terrific singer, "might as well be. . ." is one I HIGHLY recommend!

Dear Mr. Phillips,My name is Paul Greene. I'm 25, have a degree in English Literature, and studied voice (tenor). I work in the wacky, hectic world of corporate travel-- a far cry from what the original plan was (journalism and the arts). :-)I'm sitting here listening to your CD, which I got at the Footlight Records website. I'm from Minnesota and have always loved music, especiallly jazz standards and theatre songs. I've never been to a "real" NYC cabaret (I was in NYC in college to sing at Carnegie Hall, but didn't have time to take in a cabaret show). I like to add recordings of live cabaret shows to my music library so I can get a "feel" of what it must be like. I then found your site and learned more about your career. It must be so thrilling doing what you're doing. You have a wonderful, rich voice and your rapport between songs ishilarious and the collection of songs is like a "song cycle" showcasing all the emotions of Spring that is synonymous with the hymn Rodgers & Hammerstein penned. I wish you continued success with the live show and with the album. If you have time to respond, great, if not, I totally understand. I just wanted to let you know that your album is reaching a mass (okay, one) Midwestern market. :-)
Sincerely,Paul Greene
