Miles Phillips has performed leading roles with major companies throughout the country, while as a vocalist he has appeared in nightclubs from Honolulu to London. His ventures as a director have spanned from regional to New York theatre as well as serving as Artistic Director for Musical Theatre Renegades in Chicago and The Hot Spot Theatre Company in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He has been honored with numerous awards and nominations for his work as a director. He received great acclaim for his work as author and director of the smash hit revue of Shakespeare in song WORDS WORDS WORDS & MUSIC and for his work as composer and lyricist on the new song "Art and Love." Miles received his graduate training with the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco and his Master of Fine Arts degree from the National Theatre Conservatory (ANTA). He stars in the forthcoming film CAGED and received raves for his performance as Tom in the independent film KEEPERS. Miles also penned the screenplay for KEEPERS and is now finishing the novel that served as the original source for the film.
Currently he’s working in New York, acting, directing, recording and performing in some of New York's hottest clubs. He recently starred with Nancy Anderson, Celia Kennan-Bolger, Marc Kudisch, Douglas Ladnier, Deven May, Emily Skinner and Mary Testa in THE BROADWAY MUSICALS OF 1930. He's enjoyed great success in New York productions playing Banco in the New York premiere of Ionesco's MACBETT, Feste in Tom Rowan's rousing production of TWELFTH NIGHT, Edward IV in QUEEN MARGARET, Bassanio in both THE MERCHANT OF VENICE and it's new sequel THE DOCTOR OF ROME. He played Edgar Allen Poe in the original readings of the new gothic Broadway bound musical POESCRYPT. Miles recently returned to his roots in a highly successful turn as Captain von Trapp in the Britt Music Festival’s production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC (his first show as a child). He starred in the new musical version of the classic Cary Grant film PENNY SERENADE and played Charlie Marsden in the acclaimed New York production of Eugene O’Neill’s STRANGE INTERLUDE.
As a vocalist Miles has appeared in nightclubs from Honolulu to London. His newest show "...REAPPEARING IN MY MIND" debuted in an acclaimed engagement at the renowned Feinstein's. Miles received the 2009 MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs) Award for his duo show with jazz vocalist Karen Oberlin THE PLEASURE OF YOUR COMPANY, the 2008 MAC Award for Outstanding Male Vocalist for his show QUIET STARS, and the 2006 MAC Hanson Award for his outstanding body of work and for his advancement of the art of cabaret. He was honored at Town Hall at the 2006 Nightlife Awards for his performance in his one man show SPECIFIC OVERTURES and in 2004 for his performance in his one man show THE UNREST INSIDE ME in the category of Outstanding Cabaret Male Vocalist. His popular solo album "Miles Phillips - might as well be. . ." is a live recording of his hit cabaret show. He can be heard singing the roles of Orestes on the original cast recording of the rock-musical BLOOD AND GUTS, Father on the original recording of the rock-opera CHRISTMAS EVE, and playing leads on over a dozen studio cast recordings, including his critically acclaimed turn as Robert in COMPANY. Other Studio Cast Albums include: George in LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, Lumiere in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, Captain in THE SOUND OF MUSIC, Javert in LES MISERABLES, The WIzard in WICKED, Amos in CHICAGO, Albert in BYE BYE BIRDIE, Tevye in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF and The Padre in MAN OF LA MANCHA. He’s an accomplished studio vocalist, and has been featured on several recordings and jingles. His performances of the National Anthem include: The Chicago Bulls, Wembley Stadium, Arlington International Race Track, The Oakbrook Polo Club and appearances throughout the midwest singing for Big-Eight Basketball games. When not performing solo, Miles served as the resident bass with the jazz quartet A Capella Four as well as working with his vocal ensemble Chicago Vocal Authority.
Other favorite New York and regional roles include: Cliff in CABARET, Alfred/Sam in ROMANCE/ROMANCE, Derek/Hal in the Chicago premiere of ACCOMPLICE, Marchbanks in CANDIDA, Nicely-Nicely in GUYS AND DOLLS, Matt in THE FANTASTICKS, Henry in KING HENRY VI (Parts 1, 2 & 3), Philip in THE LION IN WINTER, Rivers in KING RICHARD III, Merlin in Donald McKayle’s revival of HOUSE OF FLOWERS, Dick in DAMES AT SEA, Julian in the new working of Jerry Herman’s DEAR WORLD, Kulygin in THE THREE SISTERS, Malcolm in MACBETH, Freddy in MY FAIR LADY, Garry in the Jeff-Award winning Chicago production of NOISES OFF, and Mordred in CAMELOT for which he received the DRAMA-LOGUE Critic’s Award.
